A divorce action in Louisiana must be brought in either the parish where one of the parties is domiciled or the parish of the last matrimonial domicile (parish where you last lived together as husband and wife). The parish where you were married is not a proper venue for the divorce action unless one of the parties is presently domiciled there or if it is the parish of last matrimonial domicile.
A somewhat confusing concept is the difference between a person’s residence and their domicile. A person can have many residences around the state, or world for that matter, but a person has only one domicile. A person’s domicile is the parish wherein he has his principal establishment with a corresponding intent to remain. So basically – Domicile = residence + intent to remain.
